Background:
Hello! I am Jack Burns, a recent PHD graduate in Computer Science with a specialization in AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Multilingual Analysis, and Geopolitical Risk. Before grad school, I worked in at the Office of Management and Budget for the City of New York (NYC OMB) for two years as a data analyst working on a wide array of projects from transportation projects like the BQX to the City’s Tax Lien Sale. I also have bachelor degrees in Economics and Applied Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University and a masters degree in Statistics from the University of St Andrews.
Outside of the technical, I’m a born and raised New Yorker where I still live with my dog, Finn, a boxer. In my free time I like to read, especially sci-fi, and traveling! I’ve been to India, Czechia, Hungary, and Croatia recently!
After submitting my thesis, I am now on the job market, looking to get back into industry and apply the skills I have developed. I loved problem solving and puzzles which lead to my interest in Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineering roles, however, I have experience and training that would also make be an effective Data Engineer or Data Analyst.
